Summary of Last Class

Technical writing is a form of technical communication used in a variety of technical and occupational fields. In last class we had a brief conversation on requirement of technical and report writing.
In the beginning of the class sir gave us task to write an article on yesterday class. But after writing an article we were unable to fulfill expectation of sir Rauf Shams.
The main problem with our article was that our article was not conclusive and all of us start writing an article without thinking any plot. After that we had a discussion on requirements of technical and report writing.
Sir taught us that when we are writing a technical report three points must kept in our mind.

1) Objective :

We must know what our objective is,why we are writing technical report what is the main reason and idea behind this.

2) Audience :

We must know which type of audience we are targeting, our objective must fulfill their way of thinking.

3) Conclusiveness :

When we are writing our report must be conclusive and their must be a link in all the points which we are talking about.

In short we had a healthy debate on report writing techniques. We learn many things which we never heard before. We also talk about different mindset. It was a wonderful experience we had enjoyed this session a lot and learn many new things.

"Regardless of the changes in technology, the market for well-crafted messages will always have an audience"

First of all its quite interesting to have had a session like this, fascinating for myself. I really enjoyed a lot. Secondly, its again good to see that most of the students have uploaded their blogs, that's nice.

I thought how to evaluate the students' writing, then I thought what if ?  I would have been asked to write the blog being student about the session. Now I am just giving you few points about my expected write up (that is all related with the mind set which I would have while writing the blog):

-- was something conventional or unconventional regarding the discussions and activities performed? whichever happened between the two then whats the impact on the audience? (i mean the class)

-- what was the teacher emphasizing about during the class? were those the three points or one point? I think it was only one point not the three (guess it)

-- (the least important) what I was expecting the course and how I found it? (because my view should not overwhelmed the content within the write up, though an important one indeed)

-- what students learnt from the session? did they argue the teacher or not? if yes then where it turned towards? if not then why students could not argue at all?

These are just my few points which I think I might consider while writing my own blog.

Any way, gear up in writing comments on blogs !!! I am waiting for your comments

wassalam

summary on last TRW session

In our last class , our instructor Sir Rauf Shams gave us 10 minutes to write summary of previous class lecture. As usual we started writing without thinking and wrote everything which was discussed in first class, we didn't get any conclusion because there wasn't any conclusion made by our teacher......

Now its time for sharing our summaries with teacher and but at the end sir told us about technical writing that he mentioned three point with us

Audience: what audience want to know.. describe in a way that audience is also a part of your class.
Objective: Objective should be clear and targeted to the audience.
Conclusive: at the end , report should conclude on specific point .

After all this , Sir Rauf wanted our class to think in a way that sir Rauf thinks. share our thoughts without explaining them and Sir shared techniques about technical report writing. Thats all

A Class which changed the way I look at technical writing classes

In fact I am not going to talk about the class but the teacher, a teacher who inspired and completely changed the way I look at technical writing classes.

I am a thinker and I think a lot, and I have always liked writing but the last few courses I attended kind of killed my interest in writing and made me think that the idea of writing my thoughts and ideas on a piece of paper is a bad idea, Those classes were either too boring or just taught some rules and regulations of writing which I forget as soon as the course finishes, But this class was different it didn't taught us how to write rather it made us think.

The class started with an objective to make us learn the three basic principles of writing but in a very interesting way , the teacher didn't gave us any definition but still he made us learn by making us think , write and discuss.

The first thing we did in the class was that the teacher made us review the articles we had written in the last class and then told us to examine the article of our neighbors which made us realize not theirs but our own mistakes. And then the teacher taught us the 1st principle of writing which is that one should have a clear objective before starting to write an article and the 2nd principle that we should know the audience and should write from the reader’s perspective, After that we had an open ended discussion about the things we had learned so far, form that discussion we learned how to start the article and the 3rd principle of writing which is to be conclusive and to know what do you want to tell the reader or what message you want to convey.

During the class we had a talk about Pakistanis their mind set and how their mind set is being changed, during that talk the teacher used a technique called “The Drill down Approach” which is a tool to analyze the whole situation in different conditions and situations, he actually taught by showing us how it’s done
We ended the class with the teacher giving us an assignment to write an article about the class and to posting it on this blog, I personally had very good experience in that class and I think all my class mates liked the class

What a wonderful class it was. I think this class should be video recorded and made available for the students who don’t get such teachers and for the teachers to learn and inspire

A summary of what we discussed in last class.

During the two hour class we discussed how to write a technical report. Class started with writing a summarized article on the last class discussion. We were unable to write the article with right mindset. Then Sir Rauf began with correcting our mistakes and taught us what should be our mindset and approach in the beginning of report writing.

Sir Rauf discussed following points to begun with in report writing.

Audience:
Know your audience. What their mindset is.Understanding the audience will help you to set a suitable tone for the report so that the audience find value in the report.

Objective:
What to deliver ? What your audience need to know ? your objective should be clear and concise.

Conclusive:
The whole report should lead to a conclusion.

The session ended after discussing techniques of technical report writing.

Summary of 2nd lecture.

SUMMARY

In the beginning, we all wrote the summary of discussion done in last class. Then moving forward with that discussion we start our conversion that “How to write a story? Every student share his /her views on that. Sir asked a question which is right thing when writing a story, either think and write at a same instant or first think make a plot in your mind and then write a story according to it. Some agreed with first point and some with second one.

After listening to some students sir told some basic points of writing, like whenever we write something first of all we have to know for what audience we are writing, then we know about our objective it should be clear and in the end we should set some conclusion of it and also give some points where reading also have its own conclusion and your conclusion will help the reader to link different point and find a common way about different things in your story/article.
Then sir shared his some personal experience that he had worked with some company, where he met an uncle about 60 years old who is working on a project for 18 years, and told him that still he don’t know nothing about that and the learning process of a man never ends. “No matter how much you learn or research, still there is lot of thing you don’t know.”
After this sir asked us, what if we have to sell our product? What will you do to sell you product? Are you much able to sell your manjan (product) ? like guys do in mini busses and bus stops.

Then  sir told us that we have to write in such a way that our reader/audience really feel what is happening in the story/article. Some picture should be create in his/her mind and he/she understood well what message are you conveying  in that.

In the end sir told us previous point on which we have dicussed earlier, and what we have to mainly focus on that :
·       Audience clear.
·       Objective clear.
·       Conclusive clear.

Cs-12-2004

Cs - III

As soon as Sir Rauf entered the class he asked all the students to write an article about what we had discussed in our last lecture. Nobody in the class was able to reach on a fixed platform as all were confused since there was no connection between the topics, all topics have different scenarios. Sir Rauf then asked us our opinions what we had written about the last lecture, he then concluded that we all are at different platform.

He taught us how to create interest in the article, how to involve the reader in the article or in any report, how to determine on the objective and how to get a conclusion. He also told us that article should be so powerful that the audience is able to imagine the scenario. Our points and theme should be clear to the reader. He also told us that we should plan and structure our scenario before writing it, complete information should be given in the article or any report so that the reader is able to conclude something.

All these points are taught in the class to give the students the basic idea to write a report.

Discussion of our last class

In our 2nd class of technical report writing sir starts from the last class lecture and told students to write a page on our  last class lecture but everyone not write up to the mark. but after an hour of our second class sir talk about technical writing boundaries and requirements.

sir told us about the mind set of our peoples in some areas like in business people have different mind set but academic or  research people have different mind set and different approach. sir also proof the drill down technique and telling us the style how to write an efficient article and  which basic things are required to make an article perfect.  sir teaches some points to make an article perfect  like clearity , decomposition of article and sequence flow of sentence etc

The main theme of that class was that in article that first we have to set our mind what is objective of our  article and what the audience wants or in which things audience are interested and lastly after applying all the techniques of technical writing you must be conclude all your ideas.
SUMMARY OF THE SECOND LECTURE:
The instructor, followed by a brief recap of the previous lecture, asked the students to write an article that summarizes his last lecture.
After the students had completed writing their reports, all the points they had covered were discussed. Also, the weak points of students in general were pointed out. Moreover, the instructor explained three points that an ideal ‘technical writing’ article must contain. The points are as follows:

1.     Writer’s main focus must always be the ‘audience’ he intends to write for. To keenly observe the audience and their caliber then write accordingly should be his priority.
2.     The ‘objective’ of writing the article holds equal importance. One should keep in mind the reason behind writing and must avoid getting out of track.
3.     Once the article is completed, it must be checked that whether or not the reader would come up to a valid conclusion i.e. the article must be conclusive.

In order to ensure that the students have grasped the description well, another writing activity was assigned by the instructor and the students evaluated each other’s articles.
In the end, the differences between the mindsets of a ‘business report writer’ and a ‘technical report writer’ were explained using drill down technique.

The instructor winded up the lecture by asking the students to write a brief report of how much they have learned and understood.

Summary of Technical Report Writing class

In the second class of Technical Report Writing (HU-201), the first thing sir asked us was to write one page paragraph of what we had discussed in the previous class in 10 minutes.  Although all of us started writing the paragraph but we neglected the important part of writing a report. The mistake was due to lack of information as we didn't know the important aspects of technical writing. After some display of the task sir told us three parts of writing: 1) Business writing 2) Technical writing 3) Academic writing, there were some discussion related to those topics and their differences. There was also a discussion about how to start a report whether a writer should think first then write a report or should he think will writing a report. Within those discussion sir told us about three important part how a writer should write his report;

1) Audiences: A writer should know what kind of audiences will be reading his report and how should he present it to them.

2) Object: A writer should be clear to what message he is trying to deliver to the audience in his report.

3) Conclusion: A writer report should not be based on facts but should be based on a conclusion. There must be a conclusion in the end of the report.

Sir also told us that before writing a report we should first make a writing draft that contains all the heading and main point of our report. The lecture ended while sir was explaining us about a Technique called Drilled down.

Summary Of the 2nd Lecture

We have Technical and Report Writing (TRW) course in our semester three. Sir Rauf Shams is taking our this course. In last class we had a two hour session. On the very first, he gave us an activity to write a summary of what happened in last class. After ten minutes, he asked us to tell him the strategies of what we wrote on paper. After we had a list of all strategies by distinct pupils, he started teaching us that what are the good approach to write a content.
He told that while writing, the writer should think of the content than write it on the paper. The writer should know about the audience, which S/he is going to deliver his/her thinkings. Than he should know about the objective, he is trying to achieve. After that, Sir taught us how to be conclusive while delivering a message to anyone. Then, he again gave us activity to write the summary of last hour. After all students were done, Sir gave us some key points gave us an interesting task of testing the writing skills in summaries of our fellow mates.

Then, Sir cleared us the point that how to drill down the audience into your work. Then Sir gave us to write a blog regarding the summary of the whole scenario of the present class as an assignment and each student will comment on the summary of other students  and Sir will mark the assignment on the basis of the most positive comments on a  blog.

TRW Session: January 29th, 2014

Session initiated with a 10 minutes writing activity, in which we had to recall our previous lecture [28/1/14] and summarize on a sheet of paper. After ten minutes elapsed, we told our main points to the instructor and he noted them on whiteboard. Surprisingly, none of us knew what we were doing. It was evident that no one thought about the agenda of the writing activity. Either the ideas presented were distorted, or the points were too vague. While our points were being discussed, the instructor cleverly dealt with criticism, yet he sounded quite neutral. As if, he was not saying or implying anything upon us. Rather he was planting a seed in our minds, which had the ability to make us realize what we did wrong. I realized during the analysis that there was no vision, nor was there any conclusive approach. Almost all the students directed their mind and energy in completing the activity within a span of 10 minutes ignoring the real purpose behind that activity. It was supposed to be an article but rather we wrote it like an episode.

We simply failed to plan.

Summary of Last Class

Last lecture of Technical Report Writing was held on 28th of January. In the beginning of lecture, Sir Rauf gave the class a task to write an article about what happened or what we discussed in the last lecture. After writing, Sir Rauf highlighted the mistakes we made. The articles we wrote were inconclusive and there was no connection between points. In the middle of lecture, we discussed about the difference of mind set of a Businessman and a Scientist/Technical-person.  Then Sir Rauf taught us about writing an article precisely. He taught that when writing an article, keep three things in mind. First, for whom you are writing. Second, what is your objective. Third, your article must be conclusive. We also discussed about clarity, decomposition of article, composition of paragraph, sequence of content and discussed drill down in detail. In the last.  Sir gave as a task to write an article about what happened in this lecture.

Summary on previous lecture...

In the beginning, we were asked to write a report on whatever was covered in our previous class. Everyone started writing but was unable to find a conclusion as the topics that were discussed in the previous class had no linkage with each other.
Then the teacher explained how to set our minds on a particular objective, how to write different types of reports, finding ways to make the report interesting for the audience.

In the end, a task was assigned to the students to check their understanding.

Today  was Technical report class. This subject  allow us to write three basic ways of writing.
1 ) Business writing.
2 ) Technical writing.
3 ) Academic writing.
Writing styles:
Clarity, Decomposition of articles, Sequence/flow of content.
Sir was teaching that first to deal with technical writing we first need to deal  what kind of audience we are dealing with. So to be sure what kind of person we dealing with if a person is a business men  then will have to use different way of writing or if someone is writing a story will think about for what age this story is and then will use words that being understand by them.
Second the Objective must be known by writer if someone is writing a story he must know what is the objective  of the story so that a person can proceed further if  he don’t know the objectives then it might be possible a person will start including further words which will not let them to end the story.

Third  whatever the person is writing it must be conclusive.

Article about yesterday class

Yesterday Technical Report Writing class sir give the all students task to write an article about previous lecture after that teach us how to write an article in which taught that how to take attention of the audience and also taught that first make all conclusion in writer mind and then write his article. Also a questioning section in which student ask some questions from sir related to the topic. Sir taught different techniques of writing an article in that way when anyone read our articles who feels like that watching movie or writing character moving front on him. In yesterday lecture also sir explains different between business writing and technical report writing with help of some examples. After some time take different opinion from students to that topic to check his mind what they are thinking. During lecture also talk about Pakistani behavior or attitude also doing some fun in class.
First of all Sir Rauf asked us to write an article on what we have done in last class .
when all the students shared their strategies Sir correct our mistakes and
taught us the right way to write any technical report.
Firstly we should make bullets then create a mind set about what we should write or what we                       want to present infornt of the audience/readers.we should summerize our report.whenever we are                 writting any technical report firstly we should think about the audience that when the audience read                  our report they can make conclusion easily.
secondaly our objective should be clear and in last we must be conclusive . At the end when                          audience read our report they can see the whole picture in their mind.

Our Technical Report and Writing classes are being taken by Sir Rauf Shams. In the last class we had a two hours session.
At the very first, he gave us an activity to write a summary on what had happened in last class.
After couple of minutes, he asked us to re-call the strategies of what were using while writing on the paper.
After all the students have shared their strategies, after this activity sir Rauf was not satisfied with the students he teaught us that what are the good approach to write a content.
He taught us that while writing or telling a story we should be very much clear about our audience, our objective though he also taught us how to be conclusive while delivering our messages to someone.
Then, he again gave us the activity to write the summary of last 50 minutes.
After the students were done with the class work, Sir gave us some key points to test the writing skills of our fellow mates.
We, the students point out each other's mistakes and carried on with the flow.
The Sir cleared us the point that how to drill down the audience into your content. Then he gave us to write a blog regarding the summary of the whole scenario that had happened in the last two hours, as an assignment.
although he want us to read and comment on every student's blog.
number of comments will decide which blog is the best.

Summary of the last class

Summary for last class of Technical report writing
In the last class the teacher give the students a task. The students were asked to write about the topics which were discussed in the previous class. The idea was to make the students understand the behavior of technical writing; how it should be, and how it should not be. Apparently the students could not meet the precise needs of technical writing for which the lecture went on. The teacher told the students about three paradigms of writing: 1.)Business writing  2.)Technical writing  3.)research writing and explained the difference between research writers and business writers and the mind set they have while writing. Although there were different discussions on different topics but the main idea of the lecture was understanding the true means of technical writing. Three major points were told about  how a writer should plan his writing. They are as follows:

1) The first and the foremost thing which a writer should think about is the kind of readers he is addressing to.

2) Secondly, the writer should be clear about what he has to write, he should be aware of his objective.

3)  And most importantly the writer should be conclusive. All of his arguments must lead to a conclusion. They should not only be based on facts but also should have a conclusion in the end.

At the end the teacher listed a few points on writing style and strategic elements for technical writing.
The last lecture was about:

The main points of meeting the requirement of technical report writing. The lecturer assigned us a task to write an article about the discussion of the previous lecture. All of us wrote the articles but the major need of that article was neglected due to lack of information about how to write a particular article. Some of the things which should be kept in mind are:

1. Targeting the Audience:-  How the audience think about our objective of writing that particular article and what is their expectation from that article.

2. Objective:- What you want to tell? Is your point of view clear?  It should be clear to the audience that what is the objective of writing that article.

3. Conclusion:- Your conclusion will help the reader to link different points and find a common way about different things in your article.

The instructor also used drill down approach. He also explained the technique used by the businessmen to target the needs of the buyers. He also told us about the mindset of different people about a particular thing. The lecture ended with the discussion of technical report writing techniques.

A brief summary of our last class.

The whole conversation in our class was about having a clear cut understanding about the three major points to meet the requirement of a technical report writing. The teacher has discussed about the mindset of the different people and the businessman's marketing strategy to sell their products.

The class began with the task to write an article about what we had discussed in our previous class. Unfortunately, everyone of us have started writing without keeping in mind the right mentality. A brief discussion was started about the techniques of professional writers. Questions has been raised and the teacher's responses were proved to be helpful to us to get an idea about how we could attain professionalism in articles.

The teacher has described these three points of consideration for a technical report writing:

1. Objective:
Your objective should be clear and specific.

2. Audience:
Target those audience who can take actions to fulfill your objectives. It requires
thinking about how they think about your objectives.

3. Conclusiveness:
Revolve around the objectives and think globally. Creating links in your article to help the reader to redirect the information.

Observation and having an in-depth knowledge about the wants and needs of the people can help the businessman to sell their products. Drill down approach was used by him to explain us its importance about how we could move from our main information to a detailed data by focusing on something specific. The class ended after discussing the strategic elements and writing approaches of technical report writing.
